Composite metal wall panels: build-up and installation
A composite metal wall panel is a rigid, dimensionally stable board faced with PVDF decorative film. The panel gives the wall its flatness, impact resistance and fire performance; the film gives it the finish, the cleanability and the colour stability. Specified together, they solve the two problems that most often spoil an interior: a wall that looks uneven under raking light, and a surface that cannot be cleaned hard.
Panels are delivered cut to size and finished on both faces where required, which removes wet trades from the site programme. Installation is mechanical, so an occupied floor can be re-clad in phases and handed back in sections rather than closed for weeks.
Where composite metal wall panels make the difference
- Circulation routes and lift lobbies where trolleys, beds and cleaning equipment strike the wall.
- Wet and semi-wet areas where a fully sealed, non-porous surface is required.
- Retail and hospitality interiors that need a continuous, seam-free look at a large scale.
- Refurbishment projects where the existing substrate can be over-clad instead of stripped.
Panel profile and take-off service
Because the panels are cut from drawings rather than assembled on site, the quality of the take-off determines the quality of the finish. Site dimensions are checked before manufacture, openings for sockets, dispensers and equipment are cut at the factory, and panels are labelled by location for straightforward installation. The result is a wall with fewer site cuts, tighter joints and a shorter programme — and a finish that stays flat after a season of cleaning.
Frequently asked questions about composite metal wall panels
Are the panels suitable for areas requiring fire performance? Yes. The film complies with B1 (GB 8624) with low smoke, and the complete build-up can be documented for the project’s fire strategy.
Can the panels be removed and reused? The mechanical fixing method allows individual panels to be taken down for access to services behind the wall and refitted.
How do they compare with tiles? Fewer joints, no grout lines to discolour, faster installation and a surface that can be cleaned with disinfectant rather than scrubbed.
